The Thambo Project - The Thambo Project is a non-profit organization working to build groups of citizen-artists within communities. Using Boal-based techniques, the Project addresses issues of community-building and individual empowerment through local performances and workshops. The Thambo Project is working to be a training ground for artists of all mediums to develop skills to actively pursue a more just world.

Critical Pedagogy: Advancing Social Justice Doctorate Degree, University of St. Thomas - The University of St. Thomas' doctoral program in critical pedagogy is the only program of its kind in the country. Critical pedagogy is an interdisciplinary field committed to social justice, equality and democracy. Center for Applied Theatre - Founded in Milwaukee by Jenny Wanasek and Mark Weinberg, The Center for Applied Theatre offers customized workshops to assist schools, advocacy groups and communities in their efforts to confront their issues and to uncover and solve problems. Each includes interactive theatre exercises that encourage open examination of issues and rehearsal for change. Our techniques, based on those developed by Augusto Boal, provide an effective approach to issues such as violence, self-esteem, peer pressure, drug and alcohol abuse, at-risk behaviors, organizational difficulties, student/teacher relationships, teaching and learning style challenges, race, sex, and power relationships.

Paulo Freire Institute UCLA - seeks to congregate scholars and critics of his pedagogy in permanent dialogue to foster the advancement of new pedagogical theories and concrete interventions in the real world.Its objective is to bring together research, teaching and technology while concentrating on 1) teacher education, 2) a comparative perspective on Ltin American education, 3) the politics of education, and 4) Paulo Freire's political philosophy and critical pedagogy. The Mandala Center - is a multi-disciplinary education organization dedicated to community dialogue, social justice and personal transformation. Through experiential workshops, performances, and other creative events, the Mandala Center invites people to be more awake and alive as well as empowered to take action toward a more just and joyous life for all people. The Mandala Center is also an international hub for the training and grassroots practice of Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed.

Stage Left Productions - uses socio-political drama to affect personal and social transformation in marginalized communities. InterPlay - InterPlay is an innovative theatre ensemble dedicated to creating dialogue about challenging issues. Through theatre exercises, games, scenes and audience participation, InterPlay workshops engage groups in problem-solving, conversation, and debate about any prevalent issue.

CTO-Rio - The Center of the Theatre of the Oppressed, CTO-Rio, is a non-profit, cultural association engaged in research in the area of training, theater production, and the diffusion of the Theater of the Oppressed in Brazil since 1986. Under the direction of Augusto Boal, it has contributed to the democratization of Brazilian society. They publish Metaxis, its first magazine, bringing stories and news in Portuguese and English about TO in Brazil and throughout the world.

Participatory and Emancipatory Education - The concepts of "participatory" or "emancipatory" adult literacy education have a rich literature that at times makes it difficult for people to approach the topic. With a lot of (sometimes dense) specialized terminology (e.g. "conscientization") and politically vocal adherents (who have been discussing the subject for years), people sometimes wonder where the best place is for them to jump in. This wiki space is one attempt to provide some access to this aspect of adult literacy education.

Street Spirits Theatre Company - presents audience interactive theatre with a social message. A Street Spirits show provides a high impact experience for audiences to address the social and educational concerns of their community. Street Spirits will craft a performance to meet your needs. Communities are invited to join the schedule for our upcoming tour. Our company members create forum theatre plays to perform in public venues and in schools addressing social issues such as peer pressure, substance misuse, family violence, criminal involvement, and making choices about sexuality, among others.

Journal of Pedagogy, Pluralism, and Practice - The Journal of Pedagogy, Pluralism, and Practice is a refereed journal published by Lesley University. The Journal focuses on pluralistic approaches to learning and teaching throughout the life span with a major emphasis on cultural criticism. The editorial board seeks to present a balance across diverse forms of scholarship, practitioner-research, philosophical essays, systematic theoretical research, literature, and the visual arts. The goal is to provide interdisciplinary interpretation and analysis of educational theory and practice, including learning in classrooms, organizations, and non-traditional settings.

FORMAAT - is a Dutch Theatre of the Oppressed company based in Rotterdam. It contains more than 10 years of experience of working with TO techniques on topics like schoolyard violence, sexual harassment, patient rights, feminist issues, racism and impoverishment. Recently it has started to develop Legislative Theatre projects. A unique experiment is the merger between TO and the Moral Dilemmas Discussion Method to address moral values in schools. Formaat has many international contacts and is involved in European collaboration. The website contains an ever- growing worldwide directory of TO practitioners and companies.

Headlines Theatre - was founded in 1981 by a group of politically active artists. Since then it has produced many hundreds of projects and has become a world leader in community specific, issue-oriented theatre, winning numerous awards. While we call our community work THEATRE FOR LIVING, it is based on Brazilian Director Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed.

Mumia Abu-Jamal & the Criminal Justice System - We are a group of New York City educators who helped organize a May, 1999 teach-in around the controversial case of Mumia Abu-Jamal as well as the issues it raises about police conduct and the death penalty. This fall, the need for schools to sponsor educational engagement continues.

Urban Improv - Based in Massachusetts, Urban Improv is a proven violence prevention program that uses interactive theater to teach young people decision making, impulse control, and values clarification. Over the past thirteen years, we have built a reputation as one of the most innovative youth initiatives in New England, challenging students to deal creatively with major issues in their lives. At the heart of Urban Improv is the nine week curriculum we provide annually to nearly 1,000 Boston Public School students in the elementary through high school grades. Through the improvisational process, youth in Urban Improv step in to scenes drawn from life, and are able to understand the consequences of their decisions in a safe and nurturing space. Through discussion, process, and action Urban Improv helps young people develop skills of problem solving, conflict resolution, cooperation, and leadership. In addition to working with over sixteen Boston area school, Urban Improv has worked with numerous institutions and agencies around New England to provide assembly programs for children, parents and faculty on issues such as racism, ostracism, bullying, drug abuse, peer pressure and gun violence.

Center for Children’s Theater Development - CCTD - Center for Children’s Theater Development was established in December 2002 in Pristina, Kosovo. CCTD aims to advance and promote modern theater for children emphasizing its educational and social role. CCTD does this through producing shows for children, organizing creative workshops for playwrights and young theater artists, hosting foreign theater troupes with children’s shows, and sponsoring foreign experts of children’s theater. CCTD is founded by Jeton Neziraj and is led by a group of young Kosovar playwrights and actors.

El Pueblo Integral - El Pueblo Integral – Teaching and Learning Collaborative is a Tucson-based 501 (C) 3 organization that “promotes powerful, transformative teaching and learning within appropriately structured learning environments dedicated to the integral development of individuals and communities for a more just and sustainable world” (mission statement). We are set to open the Paulo Freire Freedom School in Tucson at ‘The Historic Y’ in August with grades 6 and 7. The Historic Y is home to several environment, education, social justice, and cultural non-profit organizations and to the ZUZI! Dance Company and Theatre. We are leasing 7500 sq. ft. in the building for the school and we are contracting with ZUZI! to also use their space and artists to provide the arts/physical education component of the school. We are inspired by the work of Paulo Freire and the PTO.

Paulo Freire Institute at UCLA - The Paulo Freire Institute envisions communities of praxis in which all members are continuously engaged in a process of conscientization and re-invention aimed at creating a more just and equitable society for all its members. The Paulo Freire Institute seeks to bring together scholars, activists, and teachers inspired by Freire's pedagogy to foster the advancement and 'reinvention' of Freirian educational theories.

Our Own Voice Theatre Troupe - Created in 1991, the Our Own Voice Theatre Troupe is a non-profit organization working to empower people marginalized by mental illness, and striving to engage our community in dialogue about mental health. We use the theatre as a forum for exploring issues that affect the psychological and social well-being of all of us. We regularly use forum and image theatre techniques, heavily influenced by Boal. We also continually attempt to blur the line between actor and spectator, often inviting audience members to join us on stage at points in our productions.

Al-Soradk (Pavilion) Arts and Media Center - Al-Soradk(Marquee)Theater(1983-1988)..kind of offhand, officious, experimental mass theater, which called in other words "Anthropology theater”. So it's system depends on what is going between actors and audience. Al-soradk is a part of a wide Arabic modern theatrical movement called (ceremonialism) based on Folk Arabic Carnival’s traditions.

YES Human Development - We specialise in developing large numbers of people using a pioneering combination of personal effectiveness training and interactive theatre. We help organisations public and private, community groups and young people generate sustainable solutions to problems, find an empowered voice and become the changes they would most like to see in the world. International Theatre of the Oppressed Organisation - The International Theatre of the Oppressed Organisation will not be just one Center more, but an Organisation dedicated to help all Centers to develop themselves, so that they can help other TO groups to grow and develop. We dream of having a Virtual and also Real Libraries of books, thesis, photos, movies and videotapes about TO in the world, accessible to all. We dream of exchanging knowledge, of creating an international group of Flying Jokers , who can go anywhere in the world to help groups to organize themselves. We dream of creating International Projects to meet our needs. These are dreams, but we know that, when we work hard and if we work together, dreams have the tendency to become true.

Transformations - Transformations explores and promotes inclusive pedagogy and curriculum transformation. Representing a variety of cross-disciplinary interests, both theoretical and practical, the journal is designed to create a dynamic exchange among diverse scholars. A variety of approaches, from theoretical essays to short descriptions of pedagogical innovations, will assist teachers and scholars at all levels who are committed to integrating recent scholarship on gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and other identity positions.

University of Northern Iowa SAVE (Students Against a Violent Environment) Forum Actors are peer theatre students who present interactive workshops to raise awareness about gender based violence and sexual intimacy. Their goal is to challenge audiences to think seriously about the choices they make in their intimate relationships. Established in 2001, the group performs for various campus audiences, including first year students, athletes, fraternities and sororities, men's groups, and other co-curricular organizations.
