PTO 2012 Scholarships

Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed, Inc. (PTO) is pleased to announce the scholarship application for the 18th Annual Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed Conference, Interpreting the World, Changing the World, which will take place May 31 - June 3, 2012 in Berkeley, California, USA. 

The conference scholarship seeks to fund practitioners from around the world that exemplify in their work the mission of PTO and our annual gathering: to challenge oppressive systems by promoting critical thinking and social justice.

The scholarship is open to students, liberatory educators, activists, artists, organizers and other community members whose practice includes, reflects and expands upon the work of Paulo Freire and Augusto Boal, but who my lack the financial means to attend and participate at this year's conference. Special attention will also be given to applicants who address this year's conference theme in their daily work.

Scholarships Available for the 2012 Conference:

  • Conference Registration Fee Scholarship ($65) - Anyone may apply.
  • Travel / Lodging / Food Scholarships ($250) -Anyone may apply.  Receipts required, must register for the conference.
  • Workshop Scholarship(s) (Up to $300) - Anyone may apply.  Must register for workshop. 

Applicants may apply for multiple scholarships in a single application, but may be funded at different levels after the application's panel review.
